NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) -- A ceremony was held for a National Guard unit that's deploying to Afghanistan.
The departure ceremony for the 169th Military Police Company took place Sunday at 3 p.m. at Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown.
150 soldiers from the 169th will be spending 10 months in Afghanistan conducting security operations.
The unit will also be honored with an Iraqi Surge Streamer for its deployment to Iraq in 2007 and 2008, and 100 current and former soldiers from the unit's parent 43rd Military Police Brigade will be awarded the Combat Action Badge for their previous deployments to Iraq.
