NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) - A local group is trying to send the family of a Rhode Island Olympic swimmer to the Summer Olympics, which begin this Friday.
The Narragansett Lions Club is holding a cocktail fundraiser Tuesday night for Ted and Joan Beisel. It runs 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Bonnet Shores Beach Club. It's a cash bar with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, with the cash and donations going to the family.
Elizabeth Beisel's parents weren't able to attend the Olympics four years ago, because travel expenses to any of the Games could cost as much as $25,000.
Still, club officials say this time they will do whatever they can to allow the Beisels to see their daughter compete in person.
