PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Kimberly Fry, the North Kingstown mother convicted of killing her own child, learned her fate Tuesday in Providence Superior Court.
Fry, 38, has been sentenced to a 40 year prison term, with 20 years to serve.
A jury in October found Fry guilty of second-degree murder in the 2009 strangulation death of her 8-year-old daughter, Camden.
During Tuesday's hearing, Fry said she would never forgive herself. She said she wished she were dead so she could be reunited with her daughter in heaven.
During trial, the prosecution said Fry strangled the little girl after the child refused to take a bath and threw a tantrum.
Camden's father, Timothy Fry, found his daughter's lifeless body tucked into her bed the following morning.
The defense claimed Camden's death was an accident, the result of a restraint attempt by Fry to control her daughter, and that Fry did not know her daughter was dead when she put her body into bed.
When asked outside court, following the sentencing hearing, if he believed his wife's assertion that she inadvertently killed the little girl, he responded, "I don't know. I don't know."
Fry's lawyer said she plans to appeal the sentence.
