WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - Authorities have removed a cache of explosives from a storage unit in Westerly.
Police say the man who rented the unit is the same person whose cache of homemade fireworks and gunpowder caused an explosion at his home in September.
Fire Chief John Mackay tells the Westerly Sun that a worker at a storage facility reported an "unknown substance" in plastic bags inside a unit rented by Thomas Valliere.
Valliere was charged with felony possession of fireworks after authorities removed 75 to 100 pounds of explosives from his home following an explosion.
Police Chief Edward St. Clair says the state fire marshal's office and the FBI on Monday removed similar explosives from the storage unit.
St. Clair said he didn't know whether Valliere would face new charges.
