SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - The man accused of DUI in a crash that killed a URI student appeared in court for the first time.
Dean Philbrick, 46, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence death resulting and driving to endanger for the February 5 crash that killed 23-year-old Erica Knowles.
Knowles was a passenger in the back seat of Philbrick's car when he crashed it on Torrey Road in South Kingstown.
Philbrick was seriously injured in the crash, which is why his first court appearance took place months after the incident.
Philbrick was released on $15,000 bail and is scheduled to appear back in court on July 16 for a pretrial hearing.
