COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) -- A baby, a little girl and their mother were taken to area hospitals after a single-car crash in Coventry Tuesday.
The crash took place at about 4:45 p.m. on the Fairbanks Bridge, near the intersection of Routes 117 and 14 (Plainfield Pike).
Captain Robert Mann of the Western Coventry Fire District was at the scene.
"Mom was conscious and alert, and she was aware of what was going on," Mann said, "Her major concern, obviously, was her children."
Police have identified the driver as Renee Beaudoin, 29, of Coventry.
Firefighters said her two children were transferred to Hasbro Children's Hospital. According to police, the childrens' injuries are considered "very serious."
Beaudoin was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital with a broken leg.
Crews believe the vehicle struck the bridge abutment while traveling east on Plainfield Pike.
The official cause remains under investigation.
