BLOCK ISLAND, R.I. (WPRI) - The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an injured fisherman off Block Island Wednesday morning.
The New Bedford-based fishing boat Explorer sent out a call for help just before 8 A.M. Wednesday, after a crew member suffered a head injury due to a broken wire.
The Coast Guard sent a 47-foot Motor Life Boat to the scene, about two miles west of Block Island, and transported the injured fisherman to the Point Judith Coast Guard station. From there, the patient was taken to South County Hospital.
There was no immediate word Wednesday afternoon about the fisherman's identity nor his condition.
