COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) -- Friends gathered for a concert Friday night to pay tribute to an 18 year old man killed in a car accident.
Doug Auger's car went off the road around midnight Friday, and hit a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A local hip-hop artist called Renaissance, who was scheduled to play at the Old Theatre Diner on Sandy Bottom Road, decided to donate a portion of the proceeds to in Auger's honor.
"Tonight we decided to give one dollar of every one who walked into door to the Auger family," musician Brandon Sweeney told Eyewitness News.
Sweeney was an assistant basketball coach for Auger, and knows his family well.
"We're just trying to get everyone to be not sad and mourn, but to celebrate his life. Unfortunately he had to pass away so soon," he said.
A memorial has since been set up along Fish Hill Road, where Auger lost control. The crash remains under investigation.
Grief councilors will be available at Coventry High School from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
