RICHMOND, R.I.  (WPRI)  -- A man arrested in Rhode Island following an Amber Alert in Connecticut is expected in court Wednesday.

Daniel Candales, 42, will be arraigned on a fugitive from justice charge, after being arrested in Richmond Monday night.

According to police in Connecticut, Candales drove off with his girlfriend's nine year old daughter.

Police said Candales had the young girl and her mother with him, when he met his ex-wife at the Stonington, Connecticut Police Department to hand over their child to her.

That's when police said there was some kind of argument and Candales took off with the girl. That led to an Amber Alert, and a police chase which ended at the Super Stop and Shop in Richmond.

"It was awful, the life I led. Unfortunately, he went, I don't know if it was a kidnapping or taking off with a child way too far," said Mandy Myers, and eyewitness and the suspect's ex-wife.

The nine year old was not hurt during the incident.

Candales is due in Wakefield District Court on Wednesday.
