UNDATED (WPRI)- The waters of the Northeast are the deadliest commercial fishing region in the United States.

New statistics from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health show that there are 600 deaths for every 100,000 workers.

New Bedford is the nation's biggest fishing port in terms of dollars, and is ranked the second deadliest fishery in the U.S.

This is due to the dangerous scallop fishing that is done there.
