SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) -- Late-night doorbuster or sale-a-bration sales -- which are becoming a hallmark of Black Friday day-after-Thanksgiving sales -- could have a new feel soon in Swansea. The town is considering new safety regulations.
Police Chief George Arruda has proposed new safety rules for retailers that open between midnight and four a.m., like many stores did last year for Black Friday.
Safety rules may include bringing in portable fences or temporary security guards.
The rules proposal will be considered at a meeting Oct. 29.
In previous years, huge lines at stores brought out police to head off trouble -- and left parts of town unguarded, the police said.
