SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) - A woman has died after a serious car crash on I-195 East.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday just before exit 3 in Swansea.
Two lanes of the interstate were shut down during the morning commute while emergency crews worked to free the victim from her 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
A preliminary investigation by police indicates the vehicle was driving eastbound when it left the roadway, drove into the wood line and struck a tree.
The Swansea Fire Department and EMS responded to the accident. The woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman has not yet been identified.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
