NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) – A longtime New Bedford Police Sergeant has resigned after being named the sole suspect of an investigation involving stolen percocet pills.

According to the Standard Times, Sergeant John Pereira resigned on Tuesday after an investigation into the disappearance of 50 percocet pills from police custody.

Pereira was named the sole subject of the investigation.

The pills belonged to a suspect in police custody and were held in a locker that was only accessible to police.

No charges have been filed, but the District Attorney’s office is investigating.
