Troopers reopen I-95 in Attleboro

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) -- Traffic on I-95 in Massachusetts was backed up for hours in the Attleboro area Thursday due to downed power lines.

The highway opened around 5:30 p.m. - about two hours after Massachusetts State Police closed both sides of the interstate between Exits 4 and 5.

Police are unsure of the cause but say a National Grid power line sagged over interstate 95. A tractor trailer traveling North bound hit the wires and stopped and a second tractor trailer traveling south bound also hit the wires and stopped.

The driver of the tractor trailer traveling north bound was injured and had to be transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. His identity has not been released at this time.

David Meltz of North Carolina was operating the second tractor trailer and was unharmed.

At least four other cars were involved in the accident.

The road remained closed until crews could remove those lines.

Traffic traveling from Route 295 North was diverted to Route 95 South while crews cleaned up the stretch of highway.

The accident remains under investigation.
