FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) – A chain-reaction crash on Route 24 in Fall River is under investigation.

According to Massachusetts State Police, a Fall River police motorcycle became wedged underneath a black SUV Wednesday afternoon, after the SUV was hit by a green Volvo driven by the son of another Fall River police officer.

The motorcycle cop was escorting a bus full of Fall River firefighters from the wake of a fallen firefighter.

The teenage driver of the Volvo told police he was returning from the gym and was trying to merge onto Route 379 from Route 24 when he collided with the SUV.

The officer was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, but appeared to be in good condition.

There’s no word on if any charges will be filed against either the teen or the driver of the SUV.
