NEW BEDFORD, MASS. (WPRI) -- The Red Cross is helping two people after a fire forced them out of their home Wednesday afternoon.

According to fire officials, the fire started shortly before 2 p.m. in the basement of a home on Pamela Drive.  Everyone was out of the home when fire crews arrived and it was quickly extinguished.

Although neither the occupants nor any firefighters were hurt, the family's dog died in the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
