NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- The city of New Bedford, in association with local arts and history group AHA!, announced plans Friday for activities and events for New Year's Eve to ring out 2012 and ring in 2013.

"City Celebrates! New Year's Eve 2012" will include music, performances of skill, and arts and crafts, and end with traditional fireworks in Custom House Square at 8:30 p.m.

"Be home in time to watch the ball drop in New York City," the city's online flyer said.

But, the flyer also suggested, you can still "arrive early and stay late" with local restaurants open after the main events.

"We’re ringing in 2013 with a warm sense of community," said AHA! program director Lee Heald in a news release. "The downtown partners have come together to pull this off, and it looks to be a fabulous night for New Bedford area residents to share together."

The AHA! partners include local museums, restaurants, cultural organizations and boutiques.

AHA! is a monthly arts and culture event, the second Thursday of every month, showing off the products of the Whaling City.
