NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- New Bedford Police say they've made an arrest in connection to a fire that destroyed a Wing Street building Thursday night.
Police Chief David Provencher confirms to Eyewitness News that a youth is under arrest and is being charged with arson, although he declined to release any further information on the suspect's identity or motive, citing the ongoing investigation.
The three-alarm fire started at the intersection of Wing and Purchase Streets at about 5 p.m. Thursday. Fire crews at the scene told Eyewitness News that the fire spread from the second to the third floors.
The building was abandoned and was the former Burgo Funeral Home. Fire officials say it is a total loss.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office say their investigation is still underway.
