BREWSTER, Mass. (WPRI) - Officials say they have found their first ever human-biting mosquito caring Eastern Equine Encephalitis, also known as EEE, on Cape Cod.
According to the Cape Cod Times , the virus was found in a mosquito at Nickerson State Park in Brewster.
Gabrielle Sakolsky, an entomologist with the Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project, says EEE was found in mosquitoes back in 2006, but they were the type of mosquitoes that only bite birds.
EEE symptoms include chills, fever, headaches, vomiting and diarrhea.
There haven't been any human cases in the state this year.
