Mass. (WPRI) – Medical marijuana is legal as of Tuesday in the state of Massachusetts.

State officials say it will likely be several months before patients will be able to fill their prescriptions.

The Department of Public Health has until May 1, 2013 to develop regulations for medical marijuana.

It is not clear if patients from Massachusetts would be able to fill their prescriptions at Rhode Island dispensaries once they open this year.
