BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts legislators and top state officials are getting a pay cut.

Gov. Deval Patrick's office announced Thursday that the state's median household income, as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau, fell by 1.8 percent in the last two years.

Under the state constitution, that means the base pay for state legislators will be reduced about $1,000 from the current base pay of $61,132.

The governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and state auditor will also have their salaries reduced by 1.8 percent.

The base pay also slipped by 0.5 percent in 2011.
