Many upset over offensive photograph

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) – An inappropriate photograph that was snapped at Arlington National Cemetery has upset both veterans and community members.

Lindsey Stone posed for a picture in front of the tomb of the unknown solder in Washington D.C. making a vulgar gesture that mocked a sign requesting silence and respect.

The photo shows Stone sticking up her middle finger while gesturing a yell.

“I can understand why veterans would be upset over this,” said Edward Leblac, who was in the airforce for 20 years and served two tours in Vietnam.

Stone’s co-worker snapped the photo of her during a trip organized by her workplace, Life Cape Cod of Hyannis, a non-profit serving disabled adults.

“I was actually very shocked when seeing it and very surprised to see something like that, that was so disrespectful to veterans and all of the folks who have sacrificed their lives for us so that we can have our freedom,” said Diane Enochs of Life Cape Cod.

Stone posted an apology online on Tuesday, saying she meant no disrespect to veterans.       

Both Stone and her co-worker have been placed on unpaid leave.
