MANSFIELD, Mass. (WPRI) -- A tragedy has claimed the lives of two Mansfield women who were on vacation in Mexico.

Gail Binmore and Donna Batta drowned while staying with friends at a Cancun beach resort. Family members told WBZ-TV in Boston Binmore and Batta were wading in shallow water Tuesday night, when a rogue wave swept them out to sea.

In a statement to Eyewitness News Thursday night, Batta's family said they were "devastated" by her death.

"She was a kind and caring mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend, and she will  be missed by all of us," the statement read.
