NEW BEDFORD, MASS. (WPRI) – Almost two weeks after Sandy decimated parts of New Jersey and New York, people are still without basic necessities.
Local fire departments in Bristol County including New Bedford are trying to make a difference from in South Eastern Massachusetts.
New Bedford Fire Chief Michael Gomes says many of his fire fighters have seen the destruction first hand when they went to assist areas of Mississippi devastated by Katrina back in 2005.
The New Bedford fire department along with all other Bristol County fire departments are collecting non-perishable food and health and beauty products, which they will personally drive down to New York and New Jersey later in the week.
Bristol County fire departments are encouraging residents to drop off supplies at an Bristol County fire department.
