BOSTON, Mass. (WPRI) -- An Emerson College Fraternity helped out a fellow brother.
Donnie Collins, a Sophomore at Emerson College, got support from his brothers at Phi-Alpha-Tau who are raising money for a sex change operation.
Collins was born a female but identifies as a male. "I don't think of it as a sex change, but making my body more congruent of how I think of myself," he said.
Collins wants breast removal surgery, but his health insurance will not pay for it.
The fraternity reached out to the community and raised enough money to pay for surgery. More than $17,000 was raised to pay for the $8,000 procedure.
The remaining money will be donated to others who want a similar surgery.
