Rowdiest game of year Sunday at Foxboro

FOXBORO, MASS. (WPRI) -- It was a rough night for people both playing and watching the Patriots game at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

Foxboro Police Chief Edward O'Leary told Eyewitness News that it was the rowdiest football game this season, with officers making 8 arrests and taking 62 people into protective custody.

O'Leary said that night games tend to be rowdier than day games as a rule, but that this was probably the busiest his officers had been there this season.

One officer was kicked in the head while arresting a man for disorderly conduct; the officer finished his shift and will have a bruise but was otherwise fine.

Meanwhile, another man was taken to the hospital after falling 15 feet onto a concrete walkway.  The man suffered "extensive" facial injuries but O'Leary said it appeared the man simply lost his balance and was not involved in a a scuffle.

The eight arrests were for a variety of criminal charges, including disorderly conduct and trespassing.  "Run of the mill stuff," O'Leary said.

One man was arrested for disorderly conduct and officers then discovered he had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

As far as the game - despite a late rally, the Patriots fell to the 49ers, 41-34.
