Purse thief strikes during church

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) -- Fall River Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspected  thief wanted for stealing a woman's purse during a church service.

Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect that was taken while he allegedly used credit cards from the stolen purse to make purchases across the city.

According to investigators, the 69-year-old victim was attending church when her purse was stolen from underneath her seat.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 30s to mid-40s, with a medium build.

Anyone who recognizes him is urged to contact Fall River Police at 508-324-2802, or the anonymous tipline at 508-672-TIPS (8477).
