NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - Family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil in honor of a baby that died from injuries sustained in an apparent assault.
Those in attendance saw the vigil as a way to cope with the tragic loss of 9-month-old Ariel Eluziario, who was brutally beaten to death in January.
New Bedford Police say the baby was dropped on her head several times. The mother's boyfriend, 21-year-old Ethen Harrison is charged in connection with the death.
At the vigil, people sang songs and released balloons for Ariel.
Sharon St. Pierre, Ariel's babysitter, has set up a memorial fund in her honor. For more information on how to donate, visit the fund's Facebook page .
