DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) -- In order to exercise caution, immigration officials have transferred approximately 60 detainees from a Bristol County jail.

About 90 inmates broke more than a dozen sprinklers and refused to go into their cells at the Dartmouth House of Corrections last Wednesday. The detainees were protesting a recent change of operations related to an apparent lack of funding.

"The safety and security of our detainees is a priority of our agency," said ICE spokesman Ross Feinstein. "Detainees were located to other nearby facilities that ICE utilizes, including Suffolk and Plymouth."

Feinstein tells us that the move is a temporary measure, and believes the issue will be resolved quickly.
