TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) -- A cheerleading coach in Taunton is facing several child pornography charges after allegedly tricking teenage football players online using a fake female persona.
22-year-old Andrew DeMello of Raynham was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday night by Taunton Police and was arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday morning.
DeMello was charged with three count of possession of child pornography, along with charged of distribution of obscene matter and dissemination of obscene matter to a minor.
The investigation began in May when the Taunton Pop Warner Board approached Taunton Police after learning DeMello had a phony Facebook account for a female named Sam McLaggen. Police say it was through this Facebook account by which DeMello seduced the boys one by one.
DeMello was a cheerleading coach for Taunton Pop Warner. He also spent a year coaching at Friedman Middle School.
