CHATHAM, Mass. (WPRI) -- It was a very close call for one local family while vacationing on Cape Cod.
They encountered a great white shark feeding on a seal, and caught the whole ordeal on camera.
Peter Mottur and his family were boating off the coast of Monomy Island in Chatham Wednesday when the unbelievable scene unfolded right before their eyes. The Portsmouth family tells us the shark was at least 15 feet long, nearly half the size of their boat.
There have been several great white sightings off the coast of Cape Cod this summer. Experts say the sharks are following their food supply, which is exactly why this particular shark was seen feasting on a seal in the water.
Massachusetts marine officials confirmed the shark was in fact a great white after seeing the family's pictures and video.
