Options for overhauling Mass. DOT included

BOSTON (AP) -- Gov. Deval Patrick is planning to roll out a long-awaited report for financing an overhaul of Massachusetts' aging transportation system.

The Department of Transportation initially planned to release the report earlier in the month, but Patrick said he told officials that "a little more work" was needed after reviewing a draft version.

He plans to make the report public Monday.

The report is expected to include options for closing a huge gap in funding.

Patrick said he wants transportation improvements to drive economic growth across Massachusetts.

He has pushed for a hike in the state's gas tax in the past, but now says he's not sure that is a solution to Massachusetts' transportation financing woes.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo says the state's transportation infrastructure faces a financing gap in the billions of dollars.
