NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- An abduction victim was found alive after being kidnapped by two men pretending to be police officers.
Captain Steven Vicente told Eyewitness News that the abduction happened at about 10 a.m. at the Welby Park Estates apartments on Phillips Road in New Bedford. Two men wearing jackets that had the word "police" written across the front encountered the victim's girlfriend in the parking lot and overpowered her, then took her back inside the apartment.
The two suspects then identified themselves as police officers, handcuffed 29-year-old John Sylvia and took him away in a van.
New Bedford police say that John Sylvia was dropped off at a 7-11 in East Hartford, Connecticut sometime on Thursday night with his hands bound by plastic zip-ties.
Police are continuing to investigate.
