LINCOLN, R.I., (WPRI) - In the high profile race for the U.S. House seat in District one, Republican John Loughlin throws his hat in the race to "de-throne" the last Kennedy in national office.

Loughlin will challenge Representative Patrick Kennedy for his seat in Washington D.C.

Loughlin says, "I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for U.S. Congress."

In his announcement in Lincoln Thursday, Loughlin blasted the Congressman, the Democratic controlled Congress and the President for what he says is a failure to fix the economy.

Loughlin says, "instead of extending a helping hand my opponent has teamed up with Nancy Pelosi and her friends in Washington to throw us one anchor making matters worse not better."

Loughlin is a three term state Representative and owns his own production company, he's also a 26 year veteran of the National Guard and Army.
