PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Rhode Island’s Red Sox plates have arrived.
Governor Lincoln Chafee, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, and officials from the team presented the first 900 plates to drivers on Saturday.
Lawmakers approved the new license plates last year.
The plates cost $41.50 more than standard plates. Twenty dollars of each plate purchased goes to the Red Sox Foundation to benefit a scholarship program for Rhode Island high school students who demonstrate academic success, financial need and a commitment to community service.
The plates were handed out at Mount Pleasant High School, one of the schools with an award recipient this year.
These license plates are available for purchase at www.redsoxfoundation.org
