Community protests alleged brutality

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI)- A local community is rallying against an alleged case of police brutality.

A large crowd protested outside Providence Police headquarters Thursday night following accusations that officers manhandled innocent people during two recent drug raids.

Jeanie Dy-Harris claims her family members were roughed up while police and federal agents served warrants at two homes in the city last week.

The people at the rally are asking for a public apology.

Providence's Public Safety Commissioner says this is a case of misinformation and he says police didn't do anything wrong.

"Executing a search warrant is a dangerous exercise for our policing, and they did it in the most professional way with respect to people that were in there", Commissioner Steven Pare said.

Two people were arrested on drug charges at both locations. A third was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police say the individuals taken into custody are part of a well known gang.

A formal complaint has not been filed with the police department.
