PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI/AP) - The city of Providence will begin testing 3,000 city fire hydrants.

Fire Department Acting Chief Michael Dillon says the tests will be conducted during the month of April.

Officials say the testing could agitate main water supply lines and result in discoloration of the water.

The discoloration is caused by oxidation in the water line. Residents are urged to run the water until it flows clear.
