PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI/AP) - Rhode Island Secretary of State Ralph Mollis will visit at least six communities to hand out free voter identification cards before April's presidential primary.
Mollis is scheduled to visit North Kingstown on Monday and Burrillville on Tuesday.
He will also visit Glocester, Smithfield, Foster and Cranston later next week.
A recently passed state law asks voters to show government-issued identification when voting at the polls.
The state is providing free IDs to voters who don't have a driver's license, U.S. passport, military ID or other government-issued identification. These IDs are also available at the Secretary of State's elections office in Providence.
The April 24 presidential primary will be the first election in which IDs are required. Voters without identification will be allowed to cast provisional ballots.
