PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI/AP) -- A Rhode Island College program that helps high school students prepare for college is getting more than $600,000 in federal funding.
The state's four-member congressional delegation is officially announcing the $622,000 award for the Upward Bound program on Monday morning.
The program helps low-income, at-risk students with college preparation classes, tutoring and academic counseling as well as assistance with financial aid forms.
Upward Bound serves six high schools in Rhode Island. They include Providence's Central, Hope and Mt. Pleasant high schools; Central Falls High School, East Providence High School; and Pawtucket's Shea High School.
U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Reps. James Langevin and David Cicilline are expected to attend the announcement on the Rhode Island College campus.
