Seized weapons to be returned to vet
Lawsuit stated weapons were wrongly seized

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Cranston police have agreed to return firearms and samurai swords to a Vietnam veteran who had argued they were wrongly seized.
The Rhode Island American Civil Liberties Union announced Friday that the department also agreed to pay $2,500 in damages to Robert Machado. The ACLU sued the department on Machado's behalf after police refused to return his weapons.
The ACLU says police took Machado's collection after being called to his home by a friend who thought he was suicidal.
The suit says Machado told police his friend misunderstood. It says Machado underwent a mental health evaluation at a local hospital and was released.
