PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A woman was rushed to the hospital early Saturday morning after being struck by a car in Providence.

The accident happened at the corner of Thurbers Avenue and Rugby Street shortly after 2:00 a.m. The victim, 48-year old Marilyn Rodriguez of Providence, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Authorities say she suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Prior to the accident, two Rhode Island State Police Troopers were in the area of Thurbers Avenue for an unrelated detail, and witnessed the entire accident.

They found the suspect's vehicle a few blocks away from the scene near Richardson Street with a smashed windshield.

21-year-old William Robles from Central Falls was arrested by State Police shorly after he hit Rodriguez. He's charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Failure to Stop, Injury Resulting.

He was arraigned at the Scituate Barracks in front of a justice of the peace Saturday morning. Robles was later released on $10,000 bail with surety and is due back in court on April 16th.

Rhode Island State Police Lt. Eric Larivere said Rodriguez was treated and released from Rhode Island Hospital just after 7 a.m. and she, along with a few other witnesses, had already provided statements of the accident.
