W&I unveils new, more private 'Janes'

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The Women and Infants Breast Health Center unveiled a more private hospital gown called a “Jane” on Wednesday.

Sharon Linder the owner and founder of “Get Janes” watched her mother and sisters battle breast cancer with grace in a hospital gown that made them feel vulnerable.

The new Janes are light weight and tie in the front like a robe. The Janes hide all private parts, unlike the old traditional Johnnies.

Linder says the new hospital gowns will allow women who come in for mammograms to feel less vulnerable with a highly uncomfortable situation.

Patients will start wearing the new Janes in October at no cost to the patients, kicking off the start to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The new gowns are also available for purchase online at www.getjanes.com .

A portion of the profits from each Jane sold will go to help low-income women pay for mammograms.
