PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Waterfire is expanding across the Atlantic Ocean into Italy.

A lighting is going to take place in Rome on September 21st and 22nd.

Thirty braziers will be lit on the historic Tiber River.

It's the first large scale lighting of Waterfire in Europe.

"Over the course of the history of Waterfire, we've had over 15,000,000 people who have walked along this river.  Waterfire brings people from all walks of life together, young and old, it doesn't matter the race, there's something about the event that brings people together to enjoy and to be able to do that in Italy as we have done here in Providence is a wonderful, wonderful treat," says Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.

Mayor Taveras and Waterfire creator, Barnaby Evans, will make the trip to Rome to help oversee the event.
