Providence, R.I. (WPRI) - Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian has been appointed as the chairman of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority's board.
RIPTA's board of directors voted unanimously on the decision Monday morning.
Avedisian replaces Thomas Deller, who recently submitted his resignation as chair.
However, Deller will remain on the board.
Mayor Avedisian tells our news partner, the Providence Journal that RIPTA is facing many challenges in the coming months.
The agency is working to avert a multi-million dollar operating deficit, and reach labor agreements with employee unions.
