PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Nearly four years after a Providence woman was killed by a hit and run driver her family is searching for closure.
Gina Isom was killed by a hit and run diver on December 9, 2008 while she was crossing Atwells Avenue, when someone driving a dark sedan hit her.
Four years later, that driver has not admitted to the crime.
“The anger still lingers there, but it’s that sadness and wondering how could a person go on this long knowing that you hit somebody. You killed someone,” said the victims sister Laurie Shorts.
As the holidays approach, Gina’s family should be excited for the season, but it is overshadowed by a feeling of dread.
“It’s a sad time. It should be a joyous time where the family is together having a good time but we’re always remembering the sadness that took place three weeks before the holiday,” said Laurie.
Laurie and her family are pleading for the person who took off and left Gina for dead to come forward so they have peace of mind.
“Come forward and give us our peace of mind. Let us know that you do have a conscience and it’s been weighing on you. We’re not here to judge you. We just want that peace and to move on with our lives,” she said.
