PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Two people have been honored for their actions following a car accident involving a Rhode Island State Trooper.
Trooper Jonathan Elliott was on his way to assist another trooper on February 23 when his cruiser passed another car, and rolled over on Interstate 95.
Trooper Elliott was ejected from his cruiser.
That's when Dwayne Baker of Manchester, New Hampshire and Beverly Corrente of Exeter jumped into action.
Baker, a tractor trailer driver, positioned his big rig across the highway so no other passing vehicles could harm the injured trooper.
Baker then used Trooper Elliott's radio to call for help
Corrente rushed to Trooper Elliott's side, keeping him awake and focused until medical help arrived.
Baker and Corrente were both given special awards at a ceremony Wednesday night.
