18-Wheeler tips over, creates I-95 mess

Big rig spills wood pallets near Thurbers Ave

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Drivers who normally sail through the Providence area in the early morning hours on Route 95 found quite a different scene Tuesday morning. A tractor trailer carrying wood pallets tipped over, forcing the closure of the Thurbers Ave. exit.

The crash happened around 4 a.m. on the northbound side of the interstate. By 6:30 a.m., crews were able to flip the truck right-side-up and remove it from the highway, allowing them to reopen the travel lanes on the northbound side.

However, at 8 a.m. the Thurbers Ave. exit was still closed - completely blocked by the wood pallets the truck was carrying and creating a back up all the way to the Route 10 exit.

The exit eventually opened later in the morning.

The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. The condition of the victim is unknown.
