PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - An arsonist is being blamed for a pair of late night fires in Providence.

The first fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in a multi-family home at 100 Trask Street.

Investigators believe the fire started in the first floor hallway of the three family building.

"The sirens were going off really loud. I didn't think anything of it until my parents both woke up and they looked out the window and they say the whole family's outside," said Kayla Kilgore.

Then, a second fire started just a few streets away at 142 Potters Avenue.

Authorities are looking into arson allegations and reports of a fight occurring inside the building.

Firefighters also thought an arsonist may have been to blame for a third fire on Taylor Street in the same neighborhood. Investigators later determined it was a dryer fire and not related to the others.

The Rhode Island Red Cross was called in to help nine people affected by the Trask Street fire.

Nobody was hurt in either fire. There's no word on any suspects.
