PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- As many as 10,000 runners are hitting the pavement in Providence.

The 23rd CVS Caremark Downtown 5K is the largest running and walking event in Rhode Island, and has events for all ages. Athletes ranging from their teens -- all the way into their 80s will take part in the race, which steps off at 11:15 a.m Sunday.

Race Director Charles Breagy tells Eyewitness News the CVS 5K is unique because it gives runners of all abilities the chance to run with some true athletes. Among those taking part in the race are Providence's own Molly Huddle, who is fresh off her performance at the Olympic Games in London. Ben True of New Hampshire will also defend his title.

The course winds through downtown Providence , starting and ending on Francis Street.

Monday night at 7:00pm on WPRI 12, Eyewitness News will have a full wrap of the race including interviews with the winning runners, and a look at what makes the local race a world class event.
