Teen hit by car in Providence

Police Have Driver In Custody

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A teenager was rushed to the hospital early Sunday morning after being hit by an SUV while riding a bike.

The juvenile was struck on Smith Street near the intersection of Calverly Street around 1:00 a.m. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

Providence Police tell Eyewitness News they arrested the driver of the SUV, who has not been identified, further down the road. It is not clear what charges they are facing.

Officers shut down the section of Smith Street while they investigated and cleared the scene.
